Due to popular demand we are offering a further 2 day vegetable growing course in August. See dates below.
• VEGETABLE GROWING FOR THE PETRIFIED - An introductory two day course for people who want to grow their own food but don’t know where to start. Ideal for people just taking on an allotment or with a spare patch of garden where they want to experiment with vegetable growing.
Dates: Thursday 14th & Thursday 28th August
Course includes making the most of your site & understanding your soil; site clearance & soil preparation; crop groups and simple crop rotation; choosing what to grow; weed & pest control; the importance of compost making. Includes a tour round our working kitchen garden.Following on from day 1, the second day looks at how to extend the season, seed saving, compost making, green manures and companion planting, harvesting & storing. Includes a further visit to our working kitchen garden.

• CREATING A HERB GARDEN – From the history & folklore of herbs to growing and using your own.
Dates: Thursday 10th July
Course will include herb gardens through history; herbs & their uses; growing, harvesting & storing; some basic principles for laying out a herb garden; our top ten herbs for starting a herb garden. Includes a sensory tour of our Herb Garden.• WILDLIFE FRIENDLY GARDENING – Even the smallest town or city garden can be an important part of the wildlife network. Come and find out how.
Dates: Friday 12th September
How to make space for wildlife; what to grow, what not to grow; timing your tasks; linking to a wider habitat; why garden organically. Includes a wildlife tour of the gardens.
